Pull out those leg warmers you had stashed for a rainy day. Tease your bangs to astronomical heights. Listen to some Cyndi Lauper (hey, it’s empowering). Buy a case of Baby Ruth bars. Dust off your treasure hunting shoes. I plan to take a trip down memory lane and watch The Goonies. Do you feel up for the adventure?
As I mentioned it before; I want to rewatch some of the classic films from my younger days. A time when an actor was in the White House (well, for at least a chunk of my childhood), Kirk Cameron’s photo was up in every girl’s room (until Growing Pains was canceled), and when you didn’t need to explain who the Coreys were. Still game? Or did I lose you at “the Coreys”?
Once a month, I will be reviewing a film that I haven’t seen in years, but for one reason or another made an impact on me as a youth (or yout). I thought I would share the joy and announce what film I will review, and I post about it. Perhaps this could provoke some interesting conversation. Or, maybe you just couldn’t cut it in the book of the month club, and need something easier to fall back on. Either way, you are in.
Off the top of my head, I created a list of movies that I found memorable from my childhood and formative teen years. This list, as all of my lists tend to be, was quite long—it had 98 titles. Yikes. Soon I will post the entire list on my site, but I didn’t want to clutter this post with random movie titles. Instead, I decided to simply announce what I will be watching. And the winner is…. (drum roll, please) The Goonies. “Wow, I didn’t expect this at all. I didn’t have anything prepared for this moment. I guess this means you like me, you really like me.”
I will be watching The Goonies for probably the hundredth time in my life; but also for the first time in about 10 years. How will it stand up? Will I still have the same fondness for it? Or will I just leave the film with a strong, unexplained desire to watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy? Look for my thoughts about The Goonies on Thursday, October 28– and feel free to chime in as well!
Have a wonderful day!
